Fast sort of recap of the last couple of days.

Saturday, we went down to [livejournal.com profile] latin_cat's. The plan was to head down to Portsmouth on Sunday as a trio and it was decided that staying over at Latin's was the best course. Thus Sharpie and I turned up around mid-afternoon with a carful of assorted kit. We hung about a bit, making a point to get the poppets out to introduce them all to each other, which did not go quite so well. Maggie and Cotton had already met Welly, and so were somewhat comfortable being around him, whereas McIntyre was scared stiff and never said a word. He stood there like a post, in fact. Silly creature. You'd think he'd never met a general before...

We decided to leave them to it and ventured over to Quebec House, which is a nice little place. Latin guided us into the village next, for a drink and a wander through a secondhand bookshop, at which I managed to be the only one who didn't buy anything. Amazingly. Back at her house, we discovered that McIntyre had not budged an inch while we were gone. It was almost a little rude of him, really. I got introduced to Jezebel the musket - who is quite lovely - and we settled down to pick over our various kits, watch some Doctor Who, and generally have a good evening.

Sunday morning, Sharpie and I kitted up, then we were off. Latin wasn't able to join us in being in-kit, which was all right. It was another excellent day with the weather, so there were plenty of people about when we got to Victory. I realised after our arrival that, while I had brought McIntyre with me to Latin's, he had not found his way into the car and had been left standing by the door when we'd left. Oops. It's probably just as well, though. considering the crowds.

We had a few good laughs listening to one of the small tour groups going around the ship as well. Not sure where they got their scripts from, but it was amusing to listen in to them talking and getting some facts and things wrong. It was difficult to refrain from speaking up to correct them - or one of them, anyway. In fact Sharpie and I had to retreat topside toward the end, when we heard a group guide begin talking about Master & Commander, and unintentionally leaivng poor Latin behind. And of course the presence of a Marine and a sailor aboard attracted attention, which resulted in a couple of impromptu photo ops.

It was over to the Royal Navy Museum next, where we found ourselves eventually tagging along with the same tour group that we'd run from to keep from laughing at them. Fortunately for everybody, the museum tour had its own narration and was actually pretty interesting. We wandered about the figureheads gallery for a bit afterwards, then moved on to the museum shop. Inevitably, I came across a Marines book that I hadn't found before and promptly began skimming through it. It was as good as bought when I found several references to Major Pitcairn in it.

From there, we waffled a little before deciding - naturally - that a visit to the Royal Marines Museum was in order. So off we went. We got there about an hour before it closed, so the available time for wandering around and geeking out was somewhat restricted. There are some very nice exhibits there, especially the Mountbatten room. There wasn't as much on the pre-Royal side, of course, but the Hannah Snell bit was good. The museum shop was the last stop and Sharpie was impressed with how little time it took me to find something of interest - perhaps thirty seconds after waking into the shop, in fact. Between the two of us, we subjected Latin to considerable geekage. As if one of us isn't bad enough. :P

We set off for home again after this, with a stop for food and a couple other things, and ended up in her kitchen for a coffee and book-reading for awhile after arriving. It was an excellent visit and Latin deserves praise for putting up with the pair of us. ^____^

Today, we haven't done much of anything. Sharpie's been busy reading the book she got on Saturday, while I tried to make peace with McIntyre for forgetting him yesterday. That... did not quite work out as planned, at least initially.
